Simple cycle power plant (740MW) in the Tobruk desert in Libya.
IES Soler was in charge of designing and calculating the liquid fuel-heating equipment needed for the TOBRUK OPEN CYCLE POWER PLANT in Tobruk, North Libya, while METKA took care of the engineering part in this project. This plant can operate with natural gas or distillate fuel and its total power is 740MW.
IES Soler designed and manufactured liquid-fuel heaters to power four General Electric GT13E2 turbines.
The equipment we supplied was:
∙ 4 ATEX Electric Heat Exchangers, 320kW 3-400VAC
∙ 2 20” containers with 2 control panels in each.
Sector:
Oil&Gas
Requirements:
1. The plant is subject to extreme weather as it’s in a desert.
2. The plant needed to optimise its power consumption, ensuring the safety, durability and reliability of the equipment.
2. The plant needed to optimise its power consumption, ensuring the safety, durability and reliability of the equipment.
Solutions:
1 - Electric heat exchanger that can withstand the harsh weather in a desert. A power adjustment and control system installed inside the temperature-controlled 20” container fitted as a control room with its air-conditioning system and fire detection and extinguishing system.
2 - Optimisation of power consumption. Designed to provide tight control of the temperature with a low surface load to increase safety and reliability of this equipment and help keep the power consumption stable. This way, the resistors last longer and are safer and more sustainable.

Results:
IES Soler designed and calculated safe and sustainable liquid-fuel heating equipment that can withstand the extreme weather in a desert.
